Kerli Koiv [born February 7th 1987 in Elva, Tartumaa, Estonia], known by her stage name Kerli, is an Estonian pop, electropop, alt rock singer who is best known for her appearance in the 2004 Eurolaul competition. In the event, she performed the song "Beautiful Inside" and accumulated 3,638 points overall in the judging and televoting processes. Her total points would only allow her to finish in 2nd place. A former classmate of Kerli at Elva High once described her as "the only one who dared to be different". In 2006 Kerli signed a contract with Island Def Jam records and her debut album, titled Love Is Dead, was released on July 8th 2008.

'Love Is Dead' is the debut album from Estonian singer Kerli, released July 8th 2008 on Island Records. Produced by David Maurice, the album mixes different styles of music throughout the record. Kerli wrote this album over five years. In an interview, Kerli mentioned the album's subject: “A lot of the songs I wrote when I was really depressed, and then the later songs I wrote after coming out from my depression, so the theme of the album pretty much is overcoming obstacles and overcoming the darkness. I'm really grateful for all these experiences because I believe that until you are absorbed by darkness you can't overcome it and face the light". To date, the singles 'Love Is Dead' and 'Walking On Air' have been released. The album debuted in the United States at No.126, selling 5,500 copies in its first week. It also entered in at No.3 on the US Heatseekers chart [peaking at No.2 two weeks later] and peaked at No.19 on the US Digital Albums Chart. With this, Kerli is the first Estonian artist to reach the Billboard 200.
